I sold my sole but made it out alive

barley

so I have been working like the dog I am for the Republicans the past 3 and a half weeks building the main stage for the Convention.(amazing how well the Devil pays). the first two and a half weeks go by with the usual fare of absurdity, but then the convention starts and at first it's slow because every one is watching out for hurricane Gustav , well I got seven other people and a lead on our deckhand/stage carpenter crew. well needless to say that our client doesn't need or trust all but me and my buddy Steve (because we are scenic carpenters and build theatrical sets for a living. so our start time every day is 10:00 am till the convention is over around 11:30 pm , great, we're in over time by Wednesday. well we have already agreed to stay over night Wen/Thurs for a stage changeover. (since we built it in the first place)so at midnight we turned the square stage into a thrust stage so that J-Cain could be seen closer to his peeps ya-know. all that went fairly well all last minute changes aside I didn't get much for brakes (a little food coffee and cigarettes) till around 4:30 Thursday afternoon I'm still tinkering with the podium lift trying to get in in the right place as to go up and hit it's hole. when the lift decides not to work and we're live in half an hour. thankfully we have an electrician named Abe who crawled under the stage with me and found a bad splice and got it working, so at around 5:00 we went live hoping that the lift would work. so at that point I have been on the clock for 30 hours and am still too amped to fall asleep, but my first cue wasn't for another two hours so I got some food and was able to take a twenty minute nap.
the rest of the night went fine but I was so fucking worried at that podium rise cue when J-Cain steps out on stage if the lift was going to work and if so was it going to hit the hole without incident? and thankfully it did.

now it's not that I like Republicans (I don't I'm voting Obama) but I'm a professional stage hand working at the highest level in town and I'm just proud that I could do my job and make the show a success no matter how insane my client is.
so I have been sleeping and drinking all weekend, and I can't wait for this paycheck.

and now your moment of Zen
