About Me: I was born and raised in Colorado, and moved to Madison, WI for college. I recently graduated with a BA in anthropology.

I just got back from a 5 month teaching stint in Cochrane, a town of 2,000 in the Aysen region of Chile. There were more horses than cars. Did you know that roosters don't just crow in the morning? They NEVER shut the fuck up.

I'm more or less fluent in Spanish. I'm sarcastic and feisty, twisted and morbid. I'll do whatever I can to help out a friend. I have a dirty mouth. I think dead baby jokes are hilarious. I fucking love sushi, really old cheddar, and chocolate covered pretzels. I'm really clumsy and awkward. I'm hooked on crime dramas. Bones and CSI: Las Vegas are my favorites. I really, really hate chick flicks. I think crosswords are a lot of fun. I'm much farther to the political left than most people, but I ain't no fuckin commie. My favorite hominids are Homo erectus, Homo neanterthalensis, and Homo floreseinsis.

When I grow up, I want to save the world.

I make everywhere I go 20 times classier.

Wishlist: My Wish List
Phenomenal Woman -Maya Angelou: Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

, , , and are fine. said that there have been a few aftershocks, and her apartment building is fine. So is 's. They both have power and water. Douce says that a lot of people are sleeping in the streets because their homes were destroyed, but there wasn't as much damage as there was in Concepcion.

Roberto called me tonight. We only got to talk for a couple minutes before the line cut out, but he said that he was okay. He said that there was an aftershock near where he is living on Chiloe, and that his house was shaking and the town flooded. He said that the phone lines have been down. He said that he loved me, and then the phone line cut out.

I've been thinking lately that I'm not ready to make the law school commitment yet. I still want to travel. I was thinking about going to South Korea, but now I'm pretty sure I want to go back to Chile. I miss it so, so much, and I've really realized that that's where my heart is. I don't know that I'll ever be happy living here in the States.

Hopefully I can work something out in the next couple months.....

I am so glad that you were able to contact your peeps or at least hear of their safety. Everytime the news came on today about the quake all I could think about was how much you were worried. My mind has a weird way of messing with me.

I always believe that people should follow their hearts. It sounds like you know where your's is. I'm almost certain they need you just as much.

Anyways, I hope you figure out what's best for now and not let it stress on you too much. Either way, we're always here to give our support.

I'm so relieved. When I got that call from Roberto tonight, I just started sobbing. Hopefully I'll hear from the rest of my students and my other friend in Conce in the next couple days. And hopefully I'll be able to get a hold of Roberto again and talk more about me going back there.

I'm going to make it happen one way or another.

Thank you so much for the support. It really means a lot to me

Me too. I got news late last night that my other friend in Concepcion and her family are okay, which was a HUGE relief. Still waiting on some of my kids, and hopefully the phone lines will be working again in a couple days so I can track them down.

I was really surprised, too. I wasn't expecting my call to go through at all...... I don't know if I just got lucky or if they'll stay up or what. Hopefully they're back up, but we'll see.

Thank you. I am SO relieved. Hopefully I can work it out so that I'm back there by the end of April....I've been contacting a number of US aid agencies to see how I can get involved on the ground when I get there. We'll see!
