The Arctic Monkeys are a fairly new band that has emerged from England. The band first began in 2002. Now on the independent record label Domino Records, they have released their first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. It has already been listed as number one in the UK gaining the largest first week sales of a debut album in record sales history.
Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is a catchy album that is reminiscent of artists such as The Strokes and even some early Cure albums. The songs have a raw edge giving it the garage rock feel but with an English charm that is hard to deny. The singer, Alex Turner has a very strong Yorkshire accent and gives references to pop culture such as Romeo and Juliet (I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor).
The first single off the album, I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor has garnered many awards already and with good reason. The beginning has a driving guitar that picks up the pace with a pounding steady beat delivered by the drummer.

Expect more from this band this year. They have claimed to already have penned 10 new songs.

The band is quite young in age, with none of the members exceeding the age of 20. Their meteoric rise to fame was brought on by a great underground fan base. The website Myspace has a lot to do with the fame, helping them earn their record deal. The album never ceases to make one get up and dance. This album is recommended to anyone into dance pop-rock. Their edgy feel will make you want to see them live and the album doesn't get old with a good variety in songs. Many of the lyrics make the singer sound as if he is already jaded by the club scene at such a young age.
