Ex-Faith No More / Mr. Bungle singer Mike Patton has done it once again. He has released the long-awaited solo album, Peeping Tom. This album features a list of collaborators from Norah Jones to the underground hip-hop artist Doseone.

You can check out other projects by him by going to www.ipecac.com.

The album begins with the track “Five Seconds” featuring Odd Nosdam from the Anticon label. The beat is contagious and the hip-hop feel of the album brings a pop element not recognized in his previous collaboration in 2006 with the X-ecutioners (General Patton vs. The X-ecutioners).

The second track is the first single off this album featuring Rahzel (the human beatbox) and Dan the Automator. Both artists have experienced working as well as touring with Patton in projects such as Handsome Boy Modeling School and Bjork’s 2005 album release, Vespertine. The single has amazing sounds in the background such as a violin, two djs, a live drummer, and of course Rahzel working his vocal magic.

Look for two more albums to be released by Peeping Tom within the next year.

Another track that has gotten much critical acclaim is “Sucker” featuring Norah Jones. At first listen it is hard to believe that Norah Jones was even capable of singing the lyrics Mike Patton had written for her (“what makes you think you’re my only lover, the truth kinda hurts don’t it mother fucker?”). This song works fantastically and to see him use someone outside of the hip-hop scene helps refresh the album a bit.

The album ends with “We’re Not Alone” featuring Dub Trio. This track ends the album wonderfully. Mike Patton starts the song in a high falsetto to a simple drum beat until the chorus comes in and the sound rushes at your ears by the end in waves.

Die hard Mike Patton fans either will love this album or hate it. There is no in-between and that is very common with most of his projects. He is one of the most versatile artists from the United States and it doesn’t appear that he will be slowing down anytime soon. Look for two more albums to be released by Peeping Tom within the next year. While waiting for those, you can check out other projects by him by going to www.ipecac.com. Ipecac is the label Mike Patton started with Greg Werckman in 2000.
