The Gallows are easily the best punk band to come out of the UK in years. After hitting the shelves in 2005, Orchestra Of Wolves has been released to the U.S. under Epitaph records. These guys mix a blend of hardcore and the punk that is real punk and not that commercial bullshit. Just to give you a small idea of their sound, imagine Black Flag collaborating with Rise Against. They hate as much as they love and the fan go crazy over them.

The energy the Gallows expel is contagious. Every track on this CD is high energy and it’s no wonder they caught the attention of Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion who signed them to Epitaph. Already winning the crowds at the Warped Tour they will embark on a fall tour with punk legends themselves, Bad Religion. Not too shabby for a band that has only been around since 2005.

Lead singer Frank Carter tends to become more involved during live performances by singing in the pit with kids flailing around. He’ll comment how he gets money for making music and that he wants more money from the fans and commands them to buy t-shirts and CDs from the band. He has no shame, and I do not blame him.

According to the infamous magazine Kerrang the Gallows are now the world’s loudest band after achieving 132.5 decibels. Just to let you know how loud that is, standing next to a jet engine is 130 decibels. Sorry Manowar (they held the previous record of 129.5 decibels), this young act is taking over everything they can.

“Kill The Rhythm” is a fast-paced punk rock track that introduces the 15-track CD. Some may say that they have heard this type of sound before and that is fine, but it just sounds so good. The screaming and guitars complement one another so well.

If you are a fan of Minor Threat, Black Flag, the Bronx or are just looking for something a little harder in the punk genre, the Gallows is the band for you.

“Come Friendly Bombs” is a high energy track that catches your attention. “Abandon Ship” was a track off their first EP that they decided to put out again and it is worth a listen. “Last Fight For The Living” was an interesting instrumental piece. This song really reminded me of the classic '80s movie Repo Man for some reason.

My favorite track on this disc is the title track “Orchestra Of Wolves.” This song in certain areas reminds me of the skate punk music I rocked out to when I was younger. Frank Carter sings so pissed off that it pleases me. The lyrics are brutal and mature, speaking of not drinking, getting laid, and not caring. The guitars are that of a Bad Religion feel in the '90s. Punk rock never sounded so good.

As an added bonus to the U.S., the Gallows included a cover of Black Flag’s “Nervous Breakdown” on this release. I admit this version is one million times better than Rise Against’s attempt on the Lords of Dogtown soundtrack. It sounds more sincere.

The Gallows are not going to be one of those bands that disappear after a summer of fame. These guys are hardcore and will be sticking around for quite some time.

They are here to make music and money and that is fine by me. If you are a fan of Minor Threat, Black Flag, the Bronx or are just looking for something a little harder in the punk genre, the Gallows is the band for you. If you want to hear some true modern day punk rock that does not suck, then get out and grab Orchestra Of Wolves and thank me later.
