What are some of your favorite covers?

I just recently *cough cough* downloaded Patti Smith doing When Doves Cry. It IS great.

And speaking of Shonen Knife....They do a cover of Cherry Bomb too that is REALLY good.

Social Distortion's covers of 'Death or Glory' and 'I Fought the Law' are pretty good.

I absolutely cannot believe I forgot to list Johnny Cash. And the video for that song.... one of the most emotionally powerful videos I've ever seen.

Gosh I forgot about Cash's Hurt too.

And In Flames' 'Land of Confusion' is a great cover in a weird way. Disturbed did an okay version too.

Also, since Leila brought up 'The Man Who Sold The World', I forget her name at the moment but the lass who did it on Rock Star: INXS....that moved me.

I really liked Suzie McNeil. She was perfect for them.

Dead Kennedys have several of the best covers ever. Pull My Strings - the cover of My Sharona. Performed exactly once, live, where the word cock repeatedly was aired on live TV and radio. I fought the law (and I won), a spoof on Twinkie Gate. Viva Las Vegas - it just rocked.

However, I really like the Flaming Lips version of "It's a wonderful world" and the old faithful (and original) 99 Red Balloons cover by 7 seconds.

THe one that always sticks in my mind was T'Pau's "Rage" album cover. The tricky second album had a rockier edge, and the mid eighties of course had my hormones in a rush over Carol Decker.

jack off jill did a cover of lovesong (like everyone else >_< but unlike everyone else, i think their version is perfect. i almost like it better then the cure's version, even though it's the original. jessicka's voice is so sweet and innocent.. you just want to hug her.. until she starts screaming like a banshee
