What are some of your favorite covers?

My all time favorite is Patti Smith's cover of Prince's "When doves cry". I find Smith's version to be far superior to Prince's.

I also love Shonen Knife's covers of Martha & The Vandellas "Heat Wave" & The Carpenters "On Top of the World".

There is also a punk version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" that I love but I can't remember who it is by.

Lenny Kravitz's cover of American Woman.

Nirvana's covers of Where Did You Sleep Last Night and Love Buzz.

Pearl Jam's cover of Last Kiss.

Charley Pride's cover of Kaw Liga.

I could go on forever.

Elvis Costello singing George Jones' "What a Good Year for the Roses"

The Whites Stripes singing Dolly Parton's "Jolene"

The Decemberists covering Joanna Newsom's "Bridges and Balloons"

Ben Folds covering Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit"

any cover done by Frank Zappa (since listing them all would take fooorever.)

HIM's cover of Chris Issac's 'Wicked Games'.

The Arcade's version of Don Henley's 'Boys of Summer' wasn't too bad, either!

It Dies Today "Enjoy the Silence"

Came out before Lacuna Coil's remake, and is better.

A lot of people don't seem to know it's a cover, but the Beatles cover of "Twist & Shout" is another example of a cover that is far surperior to the original.
