About Me: James Riot was the first child born to unstable parents, Mordichai and Velma. A happy couple, perturbed at the idea of having to raise a child, as it would cut into their favorite hobby of tricking the neighborhood children into eating their own pets. Despite heavy drinking and smoking during pregnancy, little Riot survived child birth. At the age of 20 months, Riot was beginning to learn to speak when a doctor told his family that he seemed to be developmentally delayed and possibly mildly retarded. His father took the opinion to extremes, believing that he was profoundly retarded, and took him to the ocean and threw him in. Rescued from death by the horrible denizens of the undersea city R'lyeh, Riot was raised under the sea...playing amidst the massive slumbering form of Cthulhu. This close proximity was not without incident, however, as when Riot emerged from the bosom of the sea 25 years later, he returned to the world of man with malice in his heart and destruction on his mind. A weapon of the Great Old Ones, tempered at the unfathomable depths of the unforgiving sea.

Then he discovered whiskey, moved to southern California, and makes a living doing freelance artwork and drawing comics. He likes re-reading old Lovecraft stories to the point of insanity, sex with undeniably insane women, Orange Chicken from Panda Express, and B-grade horror movies. His parents hate it when he tells that story.
Current Projects: The Path: Horror comic combining elements ot Lovecraftian horror, Arthurian legend, and various mythologies. Updated M,W,F.

The Path Animated: Animated feature-length adaption of my comic, The Path.

Antisocial: Gag-a-day strip updated on Fridays.

Cthulhu Katie: Lovecraft shenanigans in the Old West.

The Rioteer: What if the Nazis won WWII? Well...here's how it probably would have gone.
Attacking My Ears...: Bad Religion, The Darkest of Hillside Thickets, Sham 69, The Jam, Queen, Billie Holiday, GWAR, Stephen Lynch, The Blues Brothers, The Ramones, The Pixies, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Black 47, Misfits, Rudimentary Peni, The Dwarves, Sloppy Seconds, The Vandals, NOFX, The Clash, The Damned, The Slackers, Agent Orange, Biohazard, The Cramps, The Horrorpops, Oxymoron,The Pillows, The Seatbelts, Foo Fighters, garbage, Greg Graffin's solo stuff, Johnny Cash, Clapton, Hendrix, Kieven Rus, Social Distortion, Murphy's Law, Pennywise, Queen, Reel Big Fish, Strung Out, The Smiths, The Suicide Machines, System of a Down, Zebrahead, etc.
Assaulting My Eyes...: Anything by Romero, Shaun of the Dead, The Evil Dead Trillogy, Lord of the Rings, Hellboy, Say Anything, One Crazy Summer, MST3K, Dead Alive, Versus, The Dead Next Door, Clerks, The Office, Better Off Dead, CSI, In Search Of..., Herby The Love Bug (remake with Bruce Campell in it) GIVE ME ZOMBIES AND GIVE THEM TO ME NOW, DAMN IT!
Filling My Brain...: Anything on Folklore/mythology/the occult, Anything by Lovecraft, Lord of the Rings (duh), I Am Legend, To Kill a Mockingbird, Beowulf (the whole damn epic. It's amazing), EVERYTHING Mike Mignola does. I swear to whatever that I'm going to build a fucking shrine to the man one day. Mike Allred too. If you've never read Mignola's HELLBOY, or Allred's MADMAN, then you're missing out on what makes comics such a great medium. Yeah, I read comics. Lots of 'em.
Me Likes: Zombies, Bad Religion, girls not afraid to throw a punch, girls not afraid to throw a punch at me, girls that'll just as soon punch you in the face as kiss you, rough sex, dirty talk, chains, leather, spikes, sneakers, jeans, nothing fancy, people who don't want to "sell the image" or other bullshit like that.
Pet Peeves: scenesters, kids who give me the devil sign and yell, "PUNK ROCK!" when they're wearing a "My Chemical Romance"shirt and jeans four sizes too small, the comic "EMO BOY". Honestly, who the fuck buys that?! Reality shows, MTV, religious fanatics(especially the ones I live with), my car always breaking down, people who ask where to find something that's five feet away from them under a GIANT SIGN describing what it is, and so on...
Pays the Bills?!: In THEORY I pay the bills with freelance illustrating jobs, mostly tattoo designs and really perverted comissions from guys who want to see a drawing of Scarlet from GI Joe sucking off Hong Kong Phooey. Shit like that. Otherwise, I just do what I have to...which this week is work for a ship chandler.

Take-offs, Landings, and Break-Ins.
Yep. It's time for my semi-annually check in! Has it really been since November? Goddamn, I'm useless around here now.

I started out the new year with a car accident and my apartment being broken into. I'm still in the process of replacing everything of merit that was stolen. Of course, I didn't have renters insurance. I do NOW, though. The worst part was that they got ALL my computer equipment, even my external hard drives...so I've been at the agonizingly slow task of re-doing several years' worth of artwork, and trying to keep clients from going somewhere else while I redid all their work. Woo. But it's cool, I'm the Goddamn Riot. I prevailed.

In about 10 days I head back to New York for the New York COmic Con, and the big "debut" of my comic, The Path. Yeah, I've been spouting crap about this comic for almost two years now, and was even self-publishing it, but now a real studio is footing the bill. So now I get to go back to just worrying about the comic itself and leave all the business end crap of it to someone else. This is a concept I enjoy. Especially since Dreamworks is interested in the book. That's right. Dreamworks. I've been stalked by them at about three conventions now, and at the last one they invited me to a pitch meeting. They like all my mental-instability-induced ideas and The Path is going to be coming to the little screen (DVD) in the next few years. Once we finish hashing it out over some of the more disturbing aspects of the story that I don't want to tone down.

It looks like I'm done with Platinum Studios. It's a shame, because I had fun working for those guys...but the way the new regime there is shaping up, it's not a good place to be. There's still about 8 months on my contract with them, so it's kind of super-happy lawyer time to get out of it. I'm letting the lawyers hash that part out. I don't really care if I wind up losing money in the deal, I just don't want to work for them anymore. They've been treating creators like crap, their employees even worse, and...while that hasn't trickled down to me yet...I want out before it does. Plus, their VP of Digital Publishing works for me now as Marketing Director anyways. So i really have no use for the place. As cold as it sounds I'm on to bigger and better things.

The site looks great. There are so many new girls, all of them so beautiful, I don't even know where to start. Same thing with journals and messages. There are about 4,000 to start sifting through. It's gonna take a while.

That's it for now. I'll leave you with a comic about when my friend Chris made me go to one of those speed-dating things. For some reason, my friends can't stand the fact that I'm single. You know the drill: click it so you get full-sized, not screwed-up clean-ness.

eh, breathing is overrated. Glad to hear things are going well for you!
I'm doing fine. In my 3rd trimester, getting HUGE, I'm going to need to take walks with a wheelbarrow for my belly soon!

Eh, the car and apartment things have become manageable. Other than that things are good, just crazy. How about you?

Yeah, I know. I'm never around. I should just start giving everyone my cell # and IM names so you can find me. Or vice versa. Probably vice versa, because then I'll put in the effort.

Oh, I probably should have said this in the post, but you can order copies of The Path now on-line before they hit stores next month. Just click here to get it. If you do, save your order/confirmation # and send it to me so I can send you artwork as a thank you for supporting the book and my childhood goals. Because God knows I'm not growing up anytime soon.
