About Me: James Riot was the first child born to unstable parents, Mordichai and Velma. A happy couple, perturbed at the idea of having to raise a child, as it would cut into their favorite hobby of tricking the neighborhood children into eating their own pets. Despite heavy drinking and smoking during pregnancy, little Riot survived child birth. At the age of 20 months, Riot was beginning to learn to speak when a doctor told his family that he seemed to be developmentally delayed and possibly mildly retarded. His father took the opinion to extremes, believing that he was profoundly retarded, and took him to the ocean and threw him in. Rescued from death by the horrible denizens of the undersea city R'lyeh, Riot was raised under the sea...playing amidst the massive slumbering form of Cthulhu. This close proximity was not without incident, however, as when Riot emerged from the bosom of the sea 25 years later, he returned to the world of man with malice in his heart and destruction on his mind. A weapon of the Great Old Ones, tempered at the unfathomable depths of the unforgiving sea.
Then he discovered whiskey, moved to southern California, and makes a living doing freelance artwork and drawing comics. He likes re-reading old Lovecraft stories to the point of insanity, sex with undeniably insane women, Orange Chicken from Panda Express, and B-grade horror movies. His parents hate it when he tells that story. |

Me Likes: Zombies, Bad Religion, girls not afraid to throw a punch, girls not afraid to throw a punch at me, girls that'll just as soon punch you in the face as kiss you, rough sex, dirty talk, chains, leather, spikes, sneakers, jeans, nothing fancy, people who don't want to "sell the image" or other bullshit like that. |
 |
Pet Peeves: scenesters, kids who give me the devil sign and yell, "PUNK ROCK!" when they're wearing a "My Chemical Romance"shirt and jeans four sizes too small, the comic "EMO BOY". Honestly, who the fuck buys that?! Reality shows, MTV, religious fanatics(especially the ones I live with), my car always breaking down, people who ask where to find something that's five feet away from them under a GIANT SIGN describing what it is, and so on... |
 |
Pays the Bills?!: In THEORY I pay the bills with freelance illustrating jobs, mostly tattoo designs and really perverted comissions from guys who want to see a drawing of Scarlet from GI Joe sucking off Hong Kong Phooey. Shit like that. Otherwise, I just do what I have to...which this week is work for a ship chandler. |

| I'm going down to Dunwich... |
 |
...please don't bother waiting up.
Wow. It's only been a little over two months this time. I'm getting better!
WOW! New Miesha set! What great timing I have! I loves the Miesha greatly!
Jesus...where to start?
The comic( The Path, for those of you with an attention span as short as mine) has been selling REALLY well. On-line, at conventions, in the stores that are already carrying it. It's been pretty awesome. I haven't really had time to slow down and breathe yet. I've been to about 10 conventions already since the last time I posted. That doesn't sound like a lot, but trust me. It is. There are at least 6 more to go until the con-season ends. I'm not complaining, though. Each one I go to, more and more people are recognizing me and the comic. More and more people are coming to the panels I do. More and more people are giving me MONEYS. Which, yeah...artistic integrity and all that...but money is nice, too. Money keeps me fed and my apartment from going away. Even better than con-goers and internets people giving me money is that Diamond Distribution is picking up the comic, too. Which means that in a few months, it'll be in stores nation-wide! All part of the plan.
I don't know if I mentioned this here yet, but we were approached by both a Dreamworks rep and an ADV rep about doing something animated with The Path. I had "meet-and-greet" meetings with both, and they're actually genuinely interested. I've been working on storyboards and animatics to use for the full pitches (thank the gods for that animation internship I did a few years ago). Through my own connections and footwork, I got "8 Simple Rules" star Amy Davidson to do the voicework for the female lead, Kat. We're aiming high on Chance: trying to get Kurt Russell (who the character is based on) to buckle and say yes. Our main weapon? Videos from readers begging Kurt to do the part. I've got about 250 videos so far. Feel free to contribute! The more help, the better! Our secondary weapon? Investors. I've actually managed to line up a few. Also, if anybody knows a band looking for exposure, we're about to start an open-call "audition" for theme songs. Right now I'm eyeing "The Darkest of Hillside Thickets", because their music is 95% Lovecraft-themed, but I've already gotten a few tracks from other bands. So if you know any bands that would be interested, give them my email: jriot@olddyingkitty.com.
There's more I should be posting about. Like, personal life and all that...but this HAS been my life since last time. I'm hoping to one day aquire normal sleeping habits, too. I certainly won't stop drinking excessively. That would be silly.
Nothing but love for DN,
-Riot! |
